Mairead Douglas

Account Manager

What I have done…
After studying French and International Relations at Coventry University I set about seeing as much of the ‘real world’ whilst traveling as possible taking jobs in New Jersey as a theatre teacher and then as a translator in Bordeaux, France. I then returned to the UK where I held various sales roles in an international capacity. It was during a six-month trip around South America that I discovered the appeal of working within the MICE industry and have never looked back! I had the privilege of working for Hong Kong Tourism Board’s London office before moving to Melia Hotels International which eventually led me to Hills Balfour whose industry reputation made it a no-brainer to join the team.

What I do now…
I began in September 2017 as MICE account manager for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority (LVCVA) for whom I represent the LVCVA throughout Europe. The premise is to generate leads from the region’s key buyers by increasing product knowledge via sales missions and exhibiting at industry trade shows.

What I do for fun…
Living in the amazing city that is London there is never a shortage of things to do with friends so I am always on the lookout for the newest pop-up restaurant, bar, shop or gallery. As an avid linguist I do my best to practise my French and (broken) Spanish. However, most importantly, I try to visit my hometown of Belfast to catch up on the craic as often as I can.

What I bring to Hills Balfour…
I have a unique perspective of the MICE industry as I have worked for both the destination and hotel side so I feel I can bring an understanding that not everyone will have. I am a naturally positive and passionate individual which I hope can be transferred to each activity and element of my role.
