Melanie Latham

Strategy Director

What I have done...
After completing a degree in Modern Languages (Spanish and French) with International Relations I knew I wanted a career that would enable me to travel and to work with clients globally. Over the course of my career I have worked in sales and marketing roles in restaurants, a large FMCG multinational, boutique hotels and NYC & Company based in New York, as well as managing the product portfolio for tour operators on North American, European and North African programme. This combined experience has given me a unique perspective into selling, marketing and promoting a destination from different industry and cultural perspectives. Early in my career whilst working marketing a FMCG product I realised that my passion lay in marketing an experience rather than a disposable consumer product, and what richer experience is there than promoting the perfect holiday… and that thought inspired this incredible journey.
What I do now...
As the Strategic Director, I head up the team for Brand USA and oversee the sales and marketing functions. Brand USA is the official destination marketing organisation for the United States and America’s first public-private partnership to promote the USA as a premier travel destination. This role enables me to work strategically promoting a country where I have lived and worked and where I can really help showcase all the wonderful things it has to offer.
What I do for Fun...
After living in New York for 7 years returning to London in June 2017, I am excited to rediscover all that London has to offer as well as catching up with family and friends. Aside from travel I love music, design, food and wine and love to take advantage of the opportunities to indulge these passions in my free time.
What I bring to Hills Balfour...
Having worked for Tour Operators, a leading DMO in destination, as well as hotels I have a unique understanding of the tourism industry which brings a holistic and integrated approach to the role. I have a global network of industry contacts that I have developed whilst working to promote travel to the USA which often comes in useful when working on strategic partnerships. Additionally, my foreign languages come in handy from time to time.
