Cheers to the New Year with Amari ( 13 November 2017 )

With the festive season fast approaching, Amari would like to invite travellers to welcome 2018 at its unique destinations across Asia. From a beach retreat in southern Sri Lanka to city hideaways in vibrant Bangkok, read on for ideas for that last getaway in 2017.

Koh Samui, Thailand

In addition to dazzling palm-fringed and white-sand beaches to unwind on, neighbouring islands to explore, and cultural sights for the Instagram feed – visiting Koh Samui during New Year’s Eve presents a bonus for guests with the perfect backdrop of fireworks over the ocean. The rule of thumb in Samui is the bigger the beach, the bigger the fireworks. The famous Chaweng Beach, on which Amari Koh Samui is located, features numerous lively party spots and is certainly the place to experience the most colourful and festive celebrations.

Amari Koh Samui, located on a secluded stretch of Chaweng Beach, offers a New Year's Eve Package, which includes a New Year's Eve Gala Dinner on 31 December 2017, round-trip transfers to and from Samui International Airport, daily breakfast at Amaya Food Gallery and more. The package is available for a minimum three-night stay in a Superior Garden Wing King room, starting at 261 GBP ++ per night and is valid for stays from 25 December 2017 to 10 January 2018. For more information about this package, visit

Phuket, Thailand

Another great destination to ring in the New Year is on the powdery white sands of Patong Beach in Phuket, which will turn into large party zones filled with live entertainment, music, fireworks displays and food stalls that stay open until dawn. Before midnight strikes, guests can walk along the beach, soak in the fun atmosphere and be surrounded by happy revellers from around the globe looking forward to that exciting countdown to the New Year.

Amari Phuket, located on a secluded peninsula at the tip of Patong Beach, is putting on an evening of music, dancing and fun at Rim Talay restaurant. Highlights include a gala dinner, live performances and unobstructed views of the spectacular Patong Bay fireworks display at midnight. For a memorable gastronomic experience to welcome 2018 in style, La Gritta provides an exclusive festive five-course set menu with the backdrop of Patong’s beachfront scenery. Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is the main scene of New Year celebrations in Thailand. Although there are numerous countdown spots throughout the capital, the biggest and most happening event is just steps away from Amari Watergate Bangkok at the forecourt of Central World Shopping Centre. Here, thousands of revellers will gather for a spectacular lighting display with beer gardens and a series of live concert performances. Before heading out to join in the fun, guests can approach the friendly Amari Host for a quick lesson on how to say ‘Happy New Year’ in Thai.

Start 2018 on the right note with a complimentary 30-minute Breeze Spa facial treatment per person per stay at Amari Watergate Bangkok when booking a Grand Deluxe or higher room category for a minimum two-night stay. Rates start at 141 GBP++ per night in a Grand Deluxe room.

Galle, Sri Lanka

With a beautifully preserved colonial townscape, little charming lanes to wander around, and sights such as the iconic lighthouse and clock tower, Galle is a relaxing destination to bid farewell to a busy year. Amari Galle is the newest hotel in the rapidly expanding collection of Amari hotels across Asia, and offers guaranteed direct sea views from every room and suite. Stop by Bommu Rooftop Bar, the only venue of its kind in the immediate area, for a selection of innovative cocktails and sharing tapas before the New Year comes around.

Celebrate the New Year in Galle with Amari Galle’s special offer. Get 20% off when booking a minimum five-night stay on Room and Breakfast rates or 10% off when booking at least 14 days in advance, along with free early check-in for stays until 31 December 2018.

In 2010, Charity Challenge organised a celebrity trek to Machu Picchu in Peru for Denise Van Outen, Fearne Cotton, Alexandra Burke, Amanda Byram and Gabriella Cilmi, in aid of Breast Cancer Care. The logistics were huge, and we came to rely on Hills Balfour for their support and advice in their role as representatives for PromPeru. The trip was a huge success and we anticipate an increase in bookings for our Peru challenges in 2011 of around 300%.

What have I done…
I have loved travelling since a young age and have been lucky enough to visit some amazing destinations, with my favourites being Colorado, Tennessee, New York, Boston, Kenya, Iceland and Canada. As a keen cellist, I have also been able to combine my passion for music with travel, and perform as part of my orchestra in a range of concert venues across Europe, including Estonia, Tuscany, Cologne and Barcelona. After completing my Music BA degree at the University of Leeds in 2016, I went and completed a ski season, working as a Chalet Host in Vallandry, France. I had the most amazing five months, meeting lots of lovely people and hitting the slopes whenever I could!
