FERNANDO PINTO RECEIVES THE ‘FLIGHT AIRLINE BUSINESS AWARD’. TAP Portugal’s CEO honoured at The Airline Strategy Awards ( 11 July 2017 )

Fernando Pinto, TAP Portugal’s CEO, has been honoured at The Airline Strategy Awards in London for his exceptional contribution to the airline industry. Organised by Flight Airline Business Global, the awards are regarded as one of the most prestigious within the airline sector.

In presenting the accolade to Fernando Pinto, Flight Airline Business Global recognises the role and contribution of TAP’s CEO in the transformation of the company since his arrival 17 years ago, including bringing private shareholders to TAP and beginning the modernisation programme of the airline.

During his time in charge, Fernando Pinto has steered the helm during a period of great development for TAP, culminating in the most recent orders for 14 A330-900neos, 39 A320neo-family aircraft, a renewal of its regional aircraft fleet and an extensive cabin-refit programme for its Airbus fleet.

The continued investment and growth saw TAP lift passenger numbers in 2016 to 11.7 million, more than double the number carried when Pinto first arrived. As well as being the leading airline from the UK to Portugal, TAP has also capitalised on the geographical and cultural links of its hub in Lisbon to serve Latin American, and Brazil in particular.

As he received the international distinction, Fernando Pinto commented that he accepts the award ‘on behalf of all of TAP’s employees, because it’s mostly because of them, of their efforts, professionalism, and dedication, that TAP has managed to overcome all challenges and obstacles.’
