Latest press releases from our clients

From 20th June to 5th July 2017, the Wilderness Collection’s Segera Retreat will be exhibiting the work of world-renowned conceptual artist, Hank Willis Thomas, as part of their Zeitz MOCAA Artist in Residence Programme. The programme invites artists who engage with the African continent to spend time in nature and be inspired by Africa’s diverse landscape. Hank Willis Thomas is a contemporary visual artist, photographer and arts educator whose work has been exhibited at a number of international and prestigious galleries such as the Guggenheim, the Whitney and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He will be exhibiting his newest collection at Segera which will focus on themes relating to identity, history and popular culture.

The Artists in Residence Programme encourages interaction between talented African artists and guests through studio-viewings and talks, where guests can learn first-hand about the artist’s work and their process. Visitors can interactively engage with the artist, allowing an understanding of their objectives and the issues they are confronting with their work.

Located in the heart of Laikipia between Mount Kenya and the Great Rift Valley, Segera Retreat combines luxury with environmentally friendly technology and prides itself on the ‘4Cs’: conservation, community, culture and commerce. Along with its commitment to sustainability, Segera is a strong advocate for community engagement and strongly believes art can ensure that African cultural heritage is recognised and preserved. Accommodation is made up of several villas including signature property Segera House and romantic hideaway for two Villa Segera.

What I have done…
I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2012 with a degree in Sociology.  Throughout my time at University I spent the summer months travelling and getting to know India and Sri Lanka in depth.  I have always had a passion for travel which led me to live and work in Hong Kong where I spent four and a half years exploring Asia, from cities to remote islands.
