Montréal to celebrate special edition of Pride as part of 375th anniversary celebrations ( 11 August 2017 )

From 10th to 20th August this year, Montréal will play host to Canada Pride Montréal  2017, a special nation-wide edition of Montréal Pride in celebration of the city’s 375th anniversary. This year’s event will include four extra days of festivities and activities, highlighting the contributions of LGBTQ communities to the history and development of Montréal and Canada over the past 375 and 150 years, respectively.

Since it first began in 1979, Montréal Pride has become an important tradition for the city and in 2016, Justin Trudeau became the first sitting Prime Minister to take part in the city's Pride celebrations as he marched in the parade. The Canada Pride Montréal 2017 programme includes over 150 activities including singing performances, human rights conferences, sports tournaments and the traditional Pride Parade. This year, a new outdoor site will be erected at Parc des Faubourgs with four times the capacity of the event’s original main venue, Place Émilie-Gamelin. Canadian singer Nelly Furtado will headline the festival giving a special performance on Friday 18th August at 9pm on the TD stage in Parc des Faubourgs.

The Montréal LGBTQ Parade 2017, one of the event’s main attractions, will take place on Sunday 20th August starting at 12pm on the corner of Drummond Street, going east and finishing on Alexandre-DeSève Street and the Village. The crowd will march to Parc des Faubourgs where everyone is invited to continue the celebrations during the MEGA T-DANCE until the closing show. The parade will feature floats from hundreds of local sports teams, cultural and community groups as well as other gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organisations. Participating groups and businesses will be encouraged to design their floats incorporating this year’s theme of ‘Canada Pride Montréal 2017’. Montréal Pride will be giving a series of special awards for the most exciting, crowd-pleasing and unforgettable floats with categories including most crowd-pleasing float, best expression of the 2017 theme and best choreography by a group.

Through my work as Tourism Ambassador for Tourism Malaysia, I have had a lot of dealings with Hills Balfour and always find them to be efficient and creative in their approach. Their professionalism is always apparent and they have no difficulty in securing top level media for press events and conferences. I myself have received many quality media interview requests through Hills Balfour, which has not only increased the positive publicity for my country, but also raised my personal profile in the UK.
