The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) has launched a new campaign, Family Fun Adventure, signifying a new strategic direction for the destination. The latest initiative aims to promote the low season by looking beyond the beach to identify attractions and facilities that appeal to families. A dedicated website has been created for international users to access offers of up to 30% off and information on accommodation and activities suitable for the family sector.
With year-round sunshine, clean and safe seas and minimal jet lag, Mauritius has become hugely popular with families, and children of all ages. The island has over time developed its hotel products to cater for this segment. These range from baby conveniences sterilisers, push chairs, high chairs and baby baths – and even pre-ordered milk, wipes and nappies in room on arrival – to mini holiday heaven in the form of in-room Wii and wifi and free kids’ and teens’ clubs to pampering spa treatments, sports academies and creative kids’ menus.
The destination also boasts a huge diversity of adventure and fun activities such as trekking, eco-tourism, diving water sports, horse riding , under sea walk, diving, nature trails, zip lining to name but a few. These types of activities allow families to relax, have fun together, explore and discover new experiences.
Before, the family sector has been overlooked with many Brits choosing closer European destinations for their summer getaway. This is largely owing to a lack of awareness, which is why this campaign comes at a crucial time to help educate consumers and travel agents alike to show them the potential in Mauritius.
The website acts as a one stop shop for information on sports (land and water based), places of interest, accommodation and car rentals. With access to detailed descriptions, images and videos it can be treated as a booking aid to help inspire and create itineraries, Never has so much information been available all in one place, making holiday planning a less daunting process.
This is supported by a series of tactical offers, exclusive to the tourism board with some discounts as big as 30% – 40%. Offers include:
- Best for parents – 30% off all spa treatments at Surya Ayurvedic Spa
- Best for unusual activities – 39% off under the sea walk
- Best for activities at sea – Half price off deep sea fishing experience with the opportunity to see dolphins, sperm whales, humpback whales and the rare whale shark
- Best for thrill seekers – 20% off quadbiking at the Domaine de l’Étoile, nature reserve
- Best for sports – 20% off sea kayaking
Bookings cannot be made directly through the website; instead booking information is listed separately for each partner. Brochures have also been created for hotels; this gives visitors the opportunity to plan and book during the trip.
